WASHINGTON, DC — Walmart has reissued a recall for about 165,250 Mainstays nine-drawer fabric dressers after federal safety regulators said more of the furniture reached shoppers after the first warning. The Consumer Product Safety Commission said the products were distributed after the original recall and then sold through liquidators.

The dressers were found to be unstable unless anchored to a wall. Regulators said that creates a tipping hazard that can cause serious injury or death if a dresser falls or traps someone. The product was also found to violate the STURDY Act, a federal furniture safety law.

What Regulators Said

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said the affected dressers have a black metal frame and nine drawers made of brown or black fabric. They were manufactured between September 2023 and December 2025 and measure 40 inches long, 13.75 inches wide and 45 inches tall.

The commission said the earlier recall covered about 165,000 dressers, and the updated posting increased the number to about 165,250. The notice does not say how many were sold after the first recall, only that some units made their way back into commerce after Walmart had already announced the safety warning.

How The Risk Arose

According to the commission, the dressers were originally recalled because they could tip over if not secured to a wall. The updated notice says the furniture was later distributed again and purchased from liquidators, which prompted the second announcement. No injuries have been reported in connection with the dressers, the commission said.

The recall is tied to a household product that can pose a danger to children and adults if it falls or if a person becomes trapped. The federal agency said the products were not stable enough on their own, which is why wall anchoring remains central to the warning.

What Owners Should Do

Anyone who has one of the recalled dressers and has not anchored it to a wall should stop using it and move it somewhere children cannot reach, according to the recall notice. Walmart is offering a full refund.

The company’s instructions say customers will need to return the drawers and then dispose of the frame themselves. Shoppers can check the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall notice for identifying details and follow Walmart’s directions for the refund process.
