WEST COLUMBIA, SC — The Bin Store has closed its West Columbia shop, ending the chain’s only South Carolina location and leaving local bargain hunters with one less place to search for discounted overstock and Amazon returns. The store at 2814 Augusta Road opened in 2022 and announced the closure in an Aug. 20 Facebook post.
The business thanked customers for supporting the Columbia-area shop, saying the community had made it “a fun adventure” from the start. The post said the company will move to a new store in Martinez, Georgia, outside Augusta, in the next few weeks, but it did not explain why the West Columbia location shut down.
What The Company Said
According to the company’s website, The Bin Store built its business around a weekly pricing cycle that it likened to “Black Friday” every Friday. Shoppers could sort through items in large rolling bins with little organization, looking for deals on things such as coffeemakers, makeup and other new overstock merchandise.
The store’s discount structure dropped prices over the course of the week, starting at $6 over the weekend and falling to $1 by Thursday. That model helped make the shop a familiar stop for customers who liked the hunt as much as the savings, and the West Columbia closure now ends that option in South Carolina.
How The Change Happened
The West Columbia shutdown appears to be part of a larger shift for the company rather than a one-store change. The Facebook post said The Bin Store is moving ahead with a new Georgia location in Martinez, and the chain already has another store in Grovetown, Georgia.
With the South Carolina site gone, the company no longer operates in the state. That matters for Midlands residents who had used the West Columbia shop as a nearby source of deeply discounted household goods, personal items and other overstock finds.
Other Bargain Stops
For shoppers still looking for similar deals, there are other discount and resale options in the Midlands. Where Ya Bin Columbia operates at 817 St. Andrews Road, and The Marketplace Vendor Mall has locations at 2271 Sunset Blvd. in West Columbia and 449 St. Andrews Road.
West Columbia also has a number of consignment and thrift-style stores, including Old Mill Antique Mall, The Warehouse, 4 Paws Thrift Store, Attic Fanatic and Thrifty Paws Boutique. The Bin Store has not said whether it plans any return to South Carolina, so customers who want updates will need to watch the company’s own social media and website for announcements.
