Chocolatine satisfies fall cravings

Chocolatine+satisfies+fall+cravings

Warm hot chocolate. Hot soup. Toasted bread. Melting chocolate. These are things we crave on a cool fall day. And Chocolatine is the perfect place to satisfy these cravings.

Chocolatine is a quaint French cafe located at 2955 E Thousand Oaks Blvd. Chocolatine is open for breakfast, lunch and tea seven days a week: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mon. through Fri., 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sat. and 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sun. There is street parking as well as a parking lot just past the cafe.

With plenty of tables and chairs to seat groups of one to five people and soft, French music playing in the background, the tea house is comfortable and quiet; outdoor seating is available as well. Customers seat themselves and service is excellent; the staff is friendly. The cafe is also decorated with French signs.

Rated 4.5 stars on Yelp, Chocolatine serves a variety of French dishes between $4.95 and $10.50. The soup du jour, or soup of the day, is a house specialty. Served with heart-shaped toast, the tomato soup is as delicious as it is warm and creamy, perfect for a cool fall day.

Chocolatine offers three different salads: warm goat cheese salad, chicken or tuna salad and caprese, each for $10.50. Croques, or grilled sandwiches, cost $8.95. All sandwiches come on heart-shaped toasted bread. The Croque Turkey contains thinly sliced turkey meat, tomatoes, melted swiss cheese and basil.

For dessert, Chocolatine offers an assortment of bakery items. Crepes, $5.95, come in a variety of flavors (strawberry, raspberry, blackberry, apricot, orange, lemon sugar, nutella or chestnut spread) and are delicious. The nutella crepe comes warm and dusted with powdered sugar and cocoa powder, the nutella slightly melted.

Other dessert options, available to-go as well, include macarons ($2.50) in an assortment of colors and flavors ranging from orange sea-salt caramel to purple espresso, eclairs ($5.95), a variety of bite-sized chocolates and chocolate Eiffel Towers. Whether it is a small Buddha-shaped and caramel-filled chocolate or flavorful sea salt caramel macaron, the desserts are unique, well-made and delicious.

Chocolatine truly deserves its high ratings and is a great place to have brunch or lunch any day of the week.
